CRIMINALS STRIKE AGAIN!

The terrifying ordeal of a couple in their seventies in the Drumconrath area over a week ago, once again highlights the vulnerability of those living in rural Ireland, in particular, elderly people living alone. The news of this heinous and totally unacceptable crime spread like wildfire throughout the area.

The actions of the criminal fraternity has reached a new low if that’s possible, with assaults on people in their own homes now a common occurrence. Its not headline news anymore. Its time that rural Ireland got the support it needs and deserves. Surely the State has a ‘duty of care’ to all its citizens, in particular the decent honourable ones. For too long now, the rights and dignity of the criminals are to the forefront of discourse. What about their victims?

They are entitled to their rights and dignity too, but are being deprived of them by these callous criminals. Our elderly have every right to live their lives like Royalty, they have earned that right. The Community of Broomfield and District extends its best wishes and support to you, the couple involved, and hope that you are recovering as best you can from your horrifying ordeal. Communities and individuals, please make Community Alert a priority in the weeks and months ahead. The Broomfield and District Community Alert, Text Alert mobile number is 086 2193103. Don’t be afraid to make that call! Alternatively, you can call 999 or 112 and ask for the Gardai, or you can call your local Garda Station. Contact Local Gardai as follows:

Slane 041 9824202, Collon 041 9819560, Ardee 041 6871130, Navan 046 9036100, Drogheda 041 9874200.
