ORLA’S A WINNER

Congratula­tions to Orla McKenna on winning the final leg of the Corinthian Jockey’s Challenge in aid of Irish Injured jockeys fund last Saturday at Leopardsto­wn racecourse. Orla was riding “Song of Namibia for Meath trainer Ger Lyons and owner David Spratt. It was a fantastic finish to the challenge for Orla who has raised nearly €13000 for the Injured Jockeys Fund. Orla has had great support from her employers Tattersall­s Ireland and is extremely grateful to everyone who donated and supported throughout the challenge.

CHILDLINE VOLUNTEERS WANTED

The Drogheda Branch of the ISPCC is recruiting for our Childline service and our next training course is due to start in January. We are currently recruiting volunteers for Monday to Thursday. The first step in becoming a volunteer is to attend an informatio­n evening/day. This is an opportunit­y for people to come along and hear about the service, and what is involved in volunteeri­ng. They would also have a chance to hear from an already active volunteer.

HISTORICAL & HERITAGE SOCIETY

A great new initiative by Colr. Tom Kelly is the formation of a Historical & Heritage Society for the Mornington/Donacarney/ Laytown/Bettystown areas. We have so much history in the area and it needs to be explored and documented. A meeting to form a society is being held this Tuesday 6th November at 8p.m. in Reddan’s of Bettystown. Everyone is welcome to come along and get started on this exciting new project. You just have to have an interest in your local area and appreciate the significan­ce of its history.
