Our Lady’s double up!

-

OUR Lady’s College Greenhills’ Under-19 and Under-16 teams both continued their impressive winning runs with big victories over St Dominic’s of Cabra in Drogheda last Friday.

Up first was the Under-16 B team’s Division 2 encounter and a run of five consecutive lay-ups from Katie McCabe helped the home side storm into a 12-4 lead after quarter one.

Point guard Erin Lane left her stamp on proceedings when scoring seven points in the second quarter, while Lois O’Hare, Keelin O’Reilly and Carla Grennan defended tenaciously to keep Cabra scoreless - 23-4 at half-time.

The third quarter was scrappy and Our Lady’s made unforced errors and allowing the visitors to out-score them 7-6, but Caoimhe Kearney and Bronagh Lane steadied the ship in the last period and Our Lady’s were very comfortable 37-13 winners at the end, 14 of those coming from McCabe.

Also hoping to qualify for the quarter-finals in the coming weeks are the Our Lady’s Under-19 Senior B team and Laura Rice hit some excellent free throws in the early stages as the Drogheda girls took a 15-3 lead by half-time.

Lindsey Eriamietor was unstoppable in the second half, scoring 11 points for her team, while Lynn Victory had some excellent steals and was cool and calm on the free throw line after persistent fouling by Cabra.

This one-sided match ended 43–9, but the girls know they will meet stronger opposition and will need to convert more lay-ups, having missed 16 in this particular game.

Meanwhile, on Thursday last the Under-19 Senior B team and Under-16 Cadette C side were both due to play Maryfield College from Drumcondra, but they conceded walkovers to both teams the day before.
