COUNTY Louth GC have been reflecting on another busy and successful year for their young players who were honoured at the recent Junior Awards Ceremony.

The Junior Boys team travelled to Scotland to claim victory in a tri series event hosted at the world-famous

FOURTEEN-HOLE Singles Stableford competitio­n played on 4th November: 1st Noel Malone 35 pts, 2nd Ian Gartland 34 pts, 3rd Tony Hawkins 33 pts.

Eighteen-hole Singles Stableford competitio­n played on 3rd November: 1st Joe Gibbons 36 pts, 2nd Paul Curtis 35 pts, 3rd Kevin Carry 34 pts, Gross Tom Cooney 24 pts.

ARDEE LADIES

NINE-HOLE stableford competitio­n played on 4th November: 1st Mags Kirk 21pts, 2nd Rita Duff 19pts.

Three-lady team sponsored by John Breen Mace played on 31st October: 1st Geraldine Keogh, Janette Commins, Bernadette Dowdall 89 pts, 2nd Freda Tighe, Breda Jones, Mary Olson 87 pts; 9 hole Eunice Molloy.

ASHFIELD

SENIORS result: 1st Tony Duffy, 2nd Martin Murphy Snrs. 14-hole competitio­n every Tuesday commencing St Andrews, which was quickly followed up by National success for the girls, who won the Leinster section of the All-Ireland Girls Interclub Matchplay before being narrowly defeated in the National final.

CONDITIONS were very windy for the final event of the season, the Captains’ Prize, but a good number of members took part.

CLOVERHILL

THE 2018 Avada Environmen­tal (formally known as SpillAssis­t) Sponsored Cloverhill Golfer of the Year is James Coburn. Dundalk native James (17) won with a total of 829 points following a 34 week year long competitio­n where a his best 16 scores counted towards the overall title.

As winner James will receive the SpillAssis­t trophy and free membership for 2019. Along with the overall prize there were three different category prizes of £100 off next years membership. Category One was won by Daniel Hughes with 843 pts. Category Two was won by John Joe Hsassard with 822 pts. Category Three was won by Martin Hollywood with 829 pts.

There was a great turnout and support given to the Big Breakfast Fundraiser on Sunday morning with all proceeds going towards a New Putting Green. Breakfast was on the go from 8 am until 9-30and was followed by a shotgun start scramble. With everyone’s belly full thanks to the efforts of Ann Marie, Bridgie, Karla, Colin and David and the generosity of Seamus McParland and Raymond McCumiskey who helped provide the grub, everyone was set for the golf in ideal weather conditions.

off to a terrific double birdie start and added more birdies at Holes 10, 17, 18, 2, 3 , 5 and 6 with no dropped shots for a 9 under total of 61 and their 5-3 handicap allowance left them with a winning total of 55.7. Their nearest challenger­s came from a pair of nett 58’s with a 5 birdie back 9 haul from Barry McKeown (12), Kevin Haughey (16) and Noel Magill earning them the runner -up spot from Colin Pilkington (3), Pete McCreesh (19) and Damien Duffy (28). A big thank you to all the members and visitors who supported this venture.

The 12 Hole Winter League commences on Nov 12 and is a weekly repeater event. Once again Mulkerns Eurospar Forkhill Road will be the competitio­n sponsors. There will be Shop vouchers for the first 3 each week and then the overall 1-2-3 with the best 5 cards over the 6 weeks of play to count. The 9th hole will not be in play, replaced by playing from the twelfth fairway to the 16th. Green. First week entry is £/€10 and £3 per week after that. This is a weekly repeater competitio­n (£/€2 for a repeat card) off 5/8 of your handicap and your Winter Card for the competitio­n must be dated and can only be signed by a member who is signed up to the

Winter League.

Our yearly Twos competitio­n conclude ending with a battle for top spot between the Pilkington brothers with the elder Colin Pilkington (2) coming out on top with 18 birdies whilst David (2) says he only won because he lost out to injury. Golfer of the Year James Coburn (17) with 12 finished third one ahead of Dee McEvoy (8) with Benny Tierney (8) next with 10 birdies. All outstandin­g 2’s money can now be collected.

Round 4 of the Winter League over Holes 1-12 saw the hitherto domination of the two Raymond’s broken as Noel Magill took top spot with 29 points. Charlie McShane John Joe Hsassard and Raymond Kelly in that order filled the next 3 places after they all returned 28 points.

Round 5 out of 8 in total with the best 6 cards to count will take place next Thursday.
