€1m worth of cannabis herb is seized
THE seizure of almost €1m worth of cannabis herb near Termonfeckin last Wednesday is being seen as a major blow to the local drugs network.
As part of an intelligence led operation targeting serious organised crime activity in the Louth Division, a planned search by Gardai from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau assisted by officers from the Criminal Assets Bureau and officers from the Drogheda and Louth Division discovered the drugs, valued at €940,000.
A female in her 30s was arrested for drug trafficking offences.
The discovery is another boost for local gardai who have initiated a major operation in the fight against drugs in the region over the past number of months.
‘ This is just part of our operations and they are ongoing,’ Supt Andrew Watters stated.
He has again moved to reassure the public that the gardai are mounting operations on a daily basis with checkpoints and surveillance and the building of information part of the operation.
A number of people have been charged with various offences in recent months.
Cllr. Kenneth Flood, who is also Chair of the Joint Policing Committee for Drogheda/South Louth welcomed the major drugs seizure. “This is very significant and has taken €1 million worth of drugs off our streets. Every blow struck against drug dealers is a welcome blow.
