Dominic Hannigan launches his Euro bid
SENATOR Ged Nash has welcomed the selection by the Labour Party of Drogheda native and former Meath
East TD Dominic Hannigan
(right) to bid for a seat in the
European Parliament in late
May’s European election.
Hannigan overcame former Amnesty EU office chief
Iverna McGowan to win the Labour nomination in a tightly fought contest in
Mullingar on Sunday. He was proposed at the convention by Ged Nash.
“Dominic is the candidate we need to win a seat in the
Midlands Northwest constituency which includes Louth and Meath,’ he stated.
“Cllr. Paul Bell, Cllr. Pio Smith and I and the strong Louth and East Meath delegation at the convention were proud to give our support to Dominic who not only has the national and international political experience to deliver for Ireland in Europe, but who acutely understands the need for Europe to become the ‘social Europe’ we in the Labour group - the second largest political bloc in Europe - want the union to be.
“The message is clear; if we want improved rights for working people; if we want greater influence in Europe and if we want to see a fairer and more equal EU, then Dominic Hannigan is the candidate to entrust your vote to.”
