Ged’s meeting to back secretaries
Senator Ged Nash has organised a public information meeting to generate public and political support for the Forsa Trade Union’s ‘ Support Our Secretaries’ campaign.
The meeting will take place at 7pm on Thursday, 7th February 2019 in Barlow House, West Gate, Drogheda.
The meeting will be addressed by Senator Nash; Elizabeth Phelan, a well-known school secretary and Forsa activist who works at Realt na Mara (Cailini), Donacarney, Co. Meath and Joe O’Connor, Lead Organiser, Forsa Trade Union.
Senator Nash explained; “As a Minister, TD and now as a Senator I have always fought hard and with considerable success to improve the legal framework of protections for the low paid and for those in precarious work.
“It is high time that the pay and conditions of school secretaries/administrators who play such a fundamental role in the management of our local schools is improved and placed on a more secure footing.
“Definitive government action must be taken this year to address the injustices experienced by school secretaries and to enable all school administrators to enjoy the same certainty, security and protections as the public servants with whom they work.
“I will be inviting all local Oireachtas members to the meeting in Drogheda in order to generate cross-party support for the campaign. Anyone who is concerned about workers’ right and all staff in local schools and parents and guardians are also welcome to attend the meeting.”
