RESIDENTS of Scarlet Crescent are to be consulted before action is taken to try and sort out the parking situation in the estate.

The closure of the free car park at the old fire station - and the loss of 80 spaces - has seen a huge increase in cars parking for the day in the estate.

That is making it difficult for residents who find themselves with no-where to park.

‘I have spoken to an engineer in charge of the area and he has suggested that there are only a few possible solutions,’ Cllr Pio Smith stated.

1. Pay/Permit Parking for the whole estate.(possible negative is that only one permit per house is issued, so people with no cars can only designate one family member as a permit holder).

2)Pay/ Permit parking for part of the estate, with the other section open to the public.

3)Residents Only Parking(similar to windmill Road).

4)Leave it as it is.

‘ The council are also examining the possibility of creating a number of parking spaces on one of the square areas within the estate. However, nothing will happen without consultation with the residents. Some people have reservations regarding permit parking. Not every resident in Scarlet Crescent has a car, so these people rely on family members to help out/keep in touch/ care for the elderly,’ he stated.

‘Some residents in the estate expressed their fear that if permit parking was brought in then some of their adult children would not be issued with a permit and these fears will have to be addressed. Also, the council have agreed to explore how Ambulance access to the rear of the estate can be accommodated, however is is believed that any works in this regard will incur significant cost.’
