Public meeting on crime issue in Barlow House

FIANNA Fáil local election candidate in Drogheda Urban, Anthony Moore, has organised a public meeting on crime in Drogheda, to be held in Barlow House at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, 30th January, 2019. Guest speaker at the event will be FF’s Justice spokespers­on, Jim O’Callaghan T.D.

Speaking to the Drogheda Independen­t, Moore said:“Serious drug-related crime has spiralled out of control in Drogheda in recent months.’

‘ I’d urge everyone concerned about crime in Drogheda to come to this meeting, outline their concerns, and hear Jim set out our party’s plans to restore law and order in our town”.

Boomerang draw

Boomerang Youth Service will be holding their Raffle Draw on Thursday January 31st at 11.00am in Boomerang Youth Service. Amie Dyer has kindly agreed to make the draw for them The general public and anyone who purchased tickets are invited to the draw and the coffee morning and the organisers hope as many as possible can attend.

Whatever Happened to Willie & Charlie Taylor?

The brothers were Uilleann Pipers extraordin­aire and natives of Drogheda. Their story will be presented by Community Historian, Brendan Matthews at the Governors House, Drogheda Museum Millmount on Wednesday, January 30th 2019 at 8pm.

The story of Willie & Charlie Taylor and how, through their engineerin­g and experiment­al skills, they made huge advancemen­ts in the popularity of the Uilleann Pipes in the later 19th century.

Leaving Drogheda in the 1860`s, the two brothers travelled across the Atlantic, settling first in New York City before moving to Philadelph­ia.

The Drogheda natives are still renowned by Pipers and other musicians around the world for the adaption and changes they made to the Uilleann Pipes, but whatever happened to Willie & Charlie Taylor?

Brendan Matthews has been researchin­g the life and times of these extraordin­ary brothers from the Boyneside. This talk is the result of his findings and was first presented at the Arts Centre, Barlow House during the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda in 2018.
