Joey’s produce fine team display to capture U-14 Leinster crown

-

ST. Joseph’s CBS Drogheda captured the U14 Leinster title with a four point victory over a well fancied CBS Carlow in Blanchardstown last week.

It was the school’s first Leinster title at that age group and St. Joseph’s came out on top in an entertaining final.

Carlow started brightly with the opening two points and only an outstanding save from Kyle Meegan kept them from increasing their lead. Emmet Delaney scored a long range point to steady the ship and slowly the Joey’s got on top playing some simple, intelligent football.

A fine goal from Destin Bisiwala put St. Joseph’s ahead for the first time then some fine team play led to them having shots cleared off the line by Ultan McCabe and Liam Flynn.

Carlow once again started the second half well as both sides exchange points early on.

A goal from Biswala put St. Joseph’s in control but four unanswered points from Carlow put them into a one point lead.

Aaron McGlew, Liam Flynn and Keefer Carolan scored excellent long range scores as both sides exchanged points again moving into the last few minutes.

Approaching the last minute, the excellent Tadgh Martin popped up to clinically finish off a fine St. Joseph’s move.

Moving into stoppage time the St. Joseph’s defence held firm throwing their bodies on the line to bloke two goalbound efforts. McCabe then topped off a fine individual performance by beating three men and slotting over to the delight of the large crowd.

In what was a fine team performance Daniel Harmon, Steven Kerr, Conor Mcguirk and Rhys Fordham worked tirelessly all game but Adam McDonagh excelled at full back to gain the man of the match award.
