Peter’s pass Skryne test in league

THE 2018 Division 1 league champions Skryne and Keegan Cup holders St Peter’s Dunboyne came face to face in the opening round of the new league campaign and it was the county champions who emerged winners on a 2-14 to 0-7 scoreline.

Skryne were minus a number of regulars and struggled throughout, trailing 0-2 to 0-9 at the break. Robbie McCarthy top-scored for the winners with seven points, while the goals came courtesy of Michael Dunne and Darragh Nolan.

Padraic Harnan played himself back into Andy McEntee’s Meath plans as he made his competitiv­e return from a serious leg injury as Moynalvey hosted newly-promoted Syddan.

Harnan accounted for all of his side’s three points in the second half as the hosts fought back from a two-point deficit in the closing stages to claim a share of the spoils on a 0-9 apiece scoreline. Daire Rowe hit seven points for Syddan.

The other promoted team - Oldcastle - suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of O’Mahony’s, the Navan side winning 2-13 to 0-6.

Beaten senior finalists Summerhill were far too good for neighbours Na Fianna, winning 1-12 to 0-6. Liam Shaw hit eight points for the winners, while the game’’ only goal was scored by Ross Ryan.

Dunshaughl­in overcame Donaghmore/Ashbourne in a low-scoring encounter, 1-6 to 1-4. Tommy Johnson accounted for the winners’ goal, with Dylan Brady finding the net for the losers.

In the remaining Division 1 clash Ratoath overcame Wolfe Tones 2-17 to 2-9.

In Division 2 relegated St Colmcille’s made a good start to their campaign under Gordon Ward despite being without their county trio. They overcame Seneschals­town 2-10 to 0-10 after leading 1-8 to 0-4 at half-time.

St Patrick’s started life in Division 2 with a 1-6 to 0-9 draw against visitors Curraha.

County senior selector Donal Curtis came on as a sub for Rathkenny and scored a point as they defeated Nobber 1-10 to 1-7. Carnaross were the biggest winners in the division as they overcame Bective 5-7 to 0-11. Meath Hill snatched a late equaliser against Duleek-Bellewstow­n and in the remaining ties Trim overcame Dunderry 0-12 to 0-7 and Ballinabra­ckey defeated St Michael’s by the same score.
