DRUMCONRATH ST MARY’S 0-10 0-3

AFTER surrendering home advantage Drumconrath recorded their first victory in 10 months in Donore on Thursday evening.

The home side struck for an early point from Peter Watters, but overall they rarely threatened to trouble the scoreboard operator. Once Daniel Byrne opened his side’s account from a free Drumconrath settled to play the better football and by half-time they had built up a 0-5 to 0-2 lead.

Byrne took his tally of points to three before the end of the half, while Robbie McEntaggert and Tomás Conlon were also on target. St Mary’s went close to finding the net in that opening half, but Declan Lafferty did well to keep the effort out.

Drumconrath continued to build on their lead in the third quarter and with Conlon, Byrne, Stephen Crosby and Daragh Dunne adding further scores they were soon out of reach. The sides swapped scores in the closing stages as the north Meath side ran out convincing winners.

Peter Tighe was outstanding in the winners’ defence, while youngsters Jamie O’Neill and Daragh Dunne also impressed. DRUMCONRATH: Declan Lafferty; Patrick Dunne, David O’Halloran, Jamie O’Neill; Daragh Dunne 0-1, Peter Tighe, Cathal Dunne; Tomás Conlon 0-2, Stephen Crosby 0-2; Derek Duff, Robert McEntaggert 0-1, Cathal McEvoy; James McMahon, Daniel Byrne 0-4, Sean Murray.
