Ardee St Mary’s pick up Ranafast and u/16 medals

Ranafast Cup and under 16 F. Championsh­ip medals won by Ardee teams in 1980, were presented at a very successful reunion on Friday night last in the Grove Hotel.

In attendance were Co. Board officers, Paddy Kenny and Peader Kearney, as well as an t-Athair Canonach Diarmuid Maclomhair, retired P.P. of Faughart and V. Rev. Canon P.F. Shields, P.P. Ardee.

Founded in 1928, St. Mary’s won the Ranafast Cup trophy — Junior 2 F. League — for the fourth occasion when they lowered the colours of Kilkerkey Emmets in the final last season. Their previous successes at this level came in 1945, *49 and 78.

Medals on Friday night went to the following: Ml. Nulty, captain, Finan McCoy, Brian Malone, Martin Callaghan, Gabriel McKenny, Alfie McGivern, Jimmy Durrigan, Colm, Eugene and Sean Ross, Tom Rice, Colin Gaffney, Seamus Rooney, Sean McCoy, John Reid, Colm Carey, Val Smith, Raymond McCourt, Mark McMahon, Kevin Kerr, Damien Matthews, Brendan and John Whately, B Keenan, Noel Malone, Vinny McCoy, Joe McArdle, Andy Devine, Ml. Rice, Ml. Clarke, Tommy Clarke, Kenneth McKenna, Sean Walsh and Ml. Malone.

The following received U. 16 medals: Kenneth Rooney, capt., Aidan McCoy, Sean Reilly, Tony McCormack, Brendan Carolan, Donal Matthews, Rbbt. McCormack, Ollie Leavy, Mark McMahon, Brendan and Dessie McKenna, Brendan Woods, Paul Landy, Jim and Tom Minogue, Joe Smith, Brian and Patsy Coleman, Denis Curtis, Willie Reilly, Thos. Casey, Brendan Kierans, Alan Sharkey and Anthony Gorman.

Mr. Nicholas Roe, chairman, Mid-Louth Minor Board presented the under-age trophies, while the medals for the adult event were presented by Co. Board chairman Mr. Paddy Kenny.
