POEMS

Michael McHugh from Tower Road Mornington gave me two of his poems a few years ago. The first one is titled Christmas time in Mornington 2012.

The dawn crept slowly o’er the sky

as the fishing boots returned from sea

with rising hearts they’d cast their nets out upon a turbulent swell the strike, the catch the feast was secured

St Nicholas ways.

DIARY DATES

The other one is titled Christmas time in Carrickspringan Moynalty 1949.

On Christmas time with Mother We would climb to the top of Mullach Na Craoibe

In the windows the lighted candles

Showing the way to Bethlehem The panoramic squinting of the countryside

Like the winter solstice at Newgrange

The night so so still. silent, the night
