DROGHEDA comedian Deirdre O’Kane was on hand last week to present local woman Michaela Stowe with the grand prize of €1,000 at Scotch Hall Shopping Centre to launch Sky Fibre Broadband in County Louth. It came with the news that people in Co Louth are spending more time online than ever before. According to new nationwide research conducted by Sky Broadband, browsing social media is Louth’s favourite thing to do online, followed by checking the news and researchin­g their next holiday getaway. THE research has revealed that the national average of time spent online is two hours per day, however 12% of people in Louth are online addicts spending up to seven hours a day surfing the web.

They spend that time on data burning apps such as Facebook (51%), updating their Instagram (19%) and sending messages via WhatsApp (12%).

According to the Sky Broadband research, a massive 78% of people living in Louth describe themselves as an online shopper. Research has revealed it is home to some very big spenders with 7% of those surveyed stating that they spend up to €350 a month online.

When it comes to spending habits, people in Louth believe in the motto of “treating yourself ” with 24% of those surveyed admitting to buying a gift for themselves as soon as the pay cheque comes in.

When it comes to TV binge-watching habits, a surprising 8% of fanatics from Louth admit to watching a whole TV series in less than a day.

A small fraction of people from Louth are movie buffs, according to the research results 10% spend up to seven hours a week watching movies online.

This figure is compared to the overall national average of just 2.6 hours per week.
