LOCAL TOP BANDS ‘MISPLACED LOCATION’ AND ‘EVEN FOR A DAY’ AIM TO

BOOMERANG BANDS REACH THE FINALS OF IYMAS

-

TWO local bands, who started in the Boomerang Youth Café, took top prizes at the recent Louth heat of the Irish Youth Music Awards (IYMA).

Drogheda’s all-girl group ‘Misplaced Location’ were awarded Best Original Song, while ‘Even for a Day’ were awarded the Best Performance. With only one band able to go forward to represent the county, this means the lads will now sing the ladies’ tune in the IYMA finals on May 11th in Croke Park.

“We are all delighted to have done so well, as there were six other bands from all over the county and the two winners came from Drogheda, and from the Boomerang Café,’ explains band member Maia McVeigh. “The Louth final was held in the Spirit Store in Dundalk and we all had to sing a cover and an original song, and we won for our song, which as the other band will perform it for us in Croke Park, it’s the best of both worlds for the town.”

The members of the two bands attend the No Name Club held in the Boomerang Café in Fair Street and were only formed in the past few weeks.

The centre organised workshops for them with established musicians to help them pen an original song, and perfect their performances.

“We get to play the second stage at the finals, which will be great experience, and the Boomerang is going to continue with workshops and making a music video with us,” adds Maia, who is in the band with fellow Greenhills students Anna Brodigan, Caoimhe McEvoy, and Hannah Horan. “We all wrote the song together, but it was mainly Hannah, so we will give her the credit!”

The girls got the opportunity to sing their song, as well as perform a number of others to an appreciative crowd in the Drogheda Town Centre on Saturday, with the permission of the management.
