Parnell’s letter to Peter Flanagan

-

A story from 1971 and I wonder is the letter still around. ‘While going through some old documents in his family home at Tobertoby, Termonfeckin, Mr. Peter Flanagan came across the following letter from Charles Stewart Parnell to his grandfather, the late Mr. Peter Flanagan. The letter was written less than two months before Parnell’s death:

“Morrison Hotel, Dawson St., Dublin; August 22, 1891. My dear sir, In anticipation of the change of policy by the proposed new directorate of the “Freeman’s Journal”, I have been requested by a large and influential body of our friends to start a first class morning and evening newspaper to advocate the principles of Home Rule for Ireland...’

Peter was a member of the Termonfeckin branch of the Irish National League.

?? ?? There are a few little spots around Drogheda that need repairs or even a little bit of attention and this is one. Whenever it rains, a section of the path on the Bridge of Peace fills with water, forcing people to walk out onto the busy road. It’s been like this for years. Surely a well placed hole would take the water away.
