SCHOOLS REPORT
Grandparents’ DayinSt. Joseph’sCBS PrimarySchool
Grandparents Day is a day of celebration and the opportunity to honour grandparents. It gives grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
Third class teachers in St. Joseph’s CBS celebrated Grandparents Day by inviting all the grandparents into their school. The third classes had a very entertaining chat with the grandparents about the life when they were kids compared to now.
St. Joseph’s CBS would like to thank the parents and grandparents for supporting their sons and our school.
LiteracyWeek inSt. Joseph’s CBS
St. Joseph’s CBS had a very successful Literacy Week. It was a celebration of reading, writing poetry and performing. The week was launched by the story teller Joe Brennan who entertained each class with intriguing stories and myths and legends. A poetry competition was held and every child wrote a poem on the themes of Happiness and Love/Hate. This competition gave so many boys the opportunity to showcase their originality with words and interest in poetry. A second competition was held were the boys designed a book cover, teaching them role that art plays with literature.
The boys were also fortunate enough to have the playwright Patrick Fox visit to teach drama. It was a really wonderful opportunity for them to test their acting skills. On the Wednesday, Olive Mooney, the Writer of: The Chronicles of Cadaver College read from her books and conducted a very formative Q and A session.
The children and teachers of St. Joseph’s concluded Literacy week by dressing up as their favourite character and bringing in their favourite stories/books into school. It was a wonderful celebration of the power of words, art and drama.
