Matthews of Oldcastle conduct their first auction of the year this weekend in the historic Duke Brothers Building in Kells, Co. Meath. To be held this Saturday and Sunday there are over one thousand lots to be cleared. All entries are from house clearances, various solicitor instructio­ns and some executor orders.

The auction commences 2pm each day and entries are still arriving daily. The catalogue can be viewed online at www. matthewsau­ctionrooms.com as it’s being updated.

This auction includes some very nice things, an Edwardian baby grand piano, a fine twodoor Regency bookcase, several antique Persian rugs, bronzes, antique paintings and prints, a few clocks, some gilded mirrors, and lots of antique silver. There is also some estate jewellery, a quantity of leather-bound volumes (various subjects) and collectabl­es of every hue.

This auction will also include items from the estate of ‘Pat the Baker’, the well-known businessma­n Pat Higgins.

The action will be open for public viewing in Kells from this Thursday and Friday, 7th & 8th February from 11am, and on each auction day also from 11am
