‘Yes’ to longer season

-

THE Dundalk Junior League have been given the go-ahead for plans to extend their season and run from March to October.

At this stage the management committee are not sure how many clubs will participate, but the picture will become clearer in the next couple of weeks as they individually contact the clubs who have shown interest.

At this stage it looks like there will be three separate competitions - junior, reserve and under-19.

A further meeting with clubs was held last Thursday after Dundalk Junior League officials met with their counterparts from the Leinster FA to clarify rules pertaining to clubs changing over from a different league.

Leading clubs in the North East League showed an interest in switching to the Dundalk League and 15 in all were represented at a meeting in January to launch plans for the revamped local league.

Two subsequent meetings took place, the latest on Thursday night last at which nine clubs were represented on each occasion.

It is expected that North East clubs will enter teams, but it mightn’t be in their first string side.

Two clubs from mid Louth - Termonfeckin and Walshestown - have indicated an interest in taking part in the Under-19 division.
