DUNDALK

THE Winter Series, sponsored by Tiernans Centra Blackrock, began on Sunday with a Four-Man Rumble over 14 holes and produced an exciting finish as the long-time clubhouse holders were finally knocked off their perch by two of the day’s final groups.

When Terry Conlon (6), Dessie Ward (13), Derek Teather (16) and Gerry McDermott (16) teed off in the opening group of the day at 8am it was cold and dim, but they proved to be in hot form and posted a score of 74 points for the 32 teams following behind them to beat.

They led for most of the day but were eventually toppled when the fifth last group, featuring Pat Beirne (23), Jim Burlingham (28), Michael McNamara (22) and Brian Crombie (22), signed for a superb score of 77 points despite playing most of their round in wet conditions.

MACBRIDE P&P

DESPITE the chilly weather last weekend, there was once again a great turnout for the MacBride Winter League.

Week 2 was an 18 gross competitio­n and the Grade 1 winner was Tommy Dyas with a score of 47 gross. Grade 2 was won by Tom Devin with a score of 51 gross.

Week three of the league will be an 18 nett competitio­n - times of play Saturday at 1.30pm and Sunday at 10am.

MEATH P&P

THE Spring Alliance was played in Dunshaughl­in on Saturday last and the winners from the tournament were as follows:

36 nett Christine Morgan (Dunshaughl­in), Barry O’Leary (Navan) and Paddy Bird (Laytown) 69 1/3; 36 gross Bridie Cummins (Trim), Willie Corry (Bellewstow­n) and Ray McCormack (Laytown) 90.

Laytown P&P Club played host to the Meath Co Board Spring Alliance competitio­n the Saturday before last and the winners were as follows:

36 nett Kathleen Grendon (Rathfeigh), Sean Kelly (Royal Meath) & Sean Reilly (Castletown) 66 2/3; 36 gross Willo McNally (Stackallen), Kieran Quinn (Rathfeigh) & Errol Carry (Rathfeigh) 85.

The final round takes place in Trim this coming Saturday.

January 26th/27th spring lamb nine-hole stableford: 1st Martina Nolan (15) 22pts, 2nd Irene Kirwan (20) 19pts, 3rd Margaret Burns (31) 16pts. The January 24th spring lamb nine-hole stableford was won by 33-handicappe­r Louise McFadden with 24 points.

WEEK three of the Briscoe Expert Electrical Winter League - an 18 nett competitio­n - took place over three days last weekend, and the results were as follows: Senior - 1st Pat Greene 44, 2nd Paul Cooney 45; Inter - 1st Sean Breen 39, 2nd Martin Reilly 40; Junior - 1st Declan Brogan 38, 2nd John Kelleher 41; Ladies - 1st Joanne Cooney 38, 2nd Barbara Murphy 41.

The five points for week three go to Team 3 - Gerry Breen snr, Josh Murtagh, Paddy Davis & Joanne Cooney - with a score of 36 under par. Three points go to Team 4 - Ray McEvoy, Barney McMahon & Ray Sheehan - with a score of 32 under par (ob9s 59½).

Week four of the Winter League will be an 18 gross - times of play Friday and Saturday at 1.30pm and Sunday at 9.30am and 1.30pm.
