Cooney dismay at reports of PO closure
FIANNA Fáil candidate in Drogheda Rural area for the forthcoming local elections, Richard Cooney, has expressed his dismay at the prospect of the closure of two more local post offices.
“It is regret and deep disappointment that I learned of the possible closure in the near future of the Post Offices in both Clogherhead and Termonfeckin. This is as a result of the recent reorganisation structural plan agreed between An Post and the Postmasters Union. I fully support the campaign to have postal services returned to Tullyallen, that have lost out a short while ago for the same reason.
The stress and inconvenience caused by these closures, particularly among the more vulnerable in our society and the elderly especially, is unacceptable.
‘I call on An Post to think again before embarking on this extreme course of action which will have a serious knock-on effect on the future promotion of tourism and other job opportunities in the locality.”
