CREDIT UNION QUIZ

Eleven teams from local primary schools took part in the Slane Credit Union School’s Quiz in Rathkenny Hall recently. Slane National School emerged winners in the A section and their team comprised of Tom Coyle, Dylan Carolan, Declan and Andrew Harding. St Louis NS Rathkenny with Shane Maguire, Leah Moore, Ellen O’Reilly and Ethan Matthews finished second while Slane NS was also third with Jessie Riggs, Cillian Murphy, Rose O’Donnell and Zack McConnon. Kentstown NS were winners in the B section and their team was Adam Ryan, Conrad Maguire, Sean Reilly and Matthew Connor. Second was Slane NS - Kathryn Yore, Nathan Kenny, Pascal Ayres and Doon Aherne, and a team from Slane NS comprising of Conor O’Sullivan, Ella Traynor, Senan Kerrigan and Ethan Harding also took third spot. Well done to all the winners as well as those who all took part.

AFTERNOON CONCERT

Tankardsto­wn House host an afternoon concert of Italian Opera in The Orangery at Tankardsto­wn House this Sunday, February 17th. It will feature soprano Evelyne Bourton and guests, tenor Andrew Gavin and pianist Donal McCrisken. LITTER PICK

Rossin Rovers and Monknewtow­n Community Council are doing a litter pick on Saturday, February 22nd. Volunteers can meet at hall at 10.30am and play their part in keeping the community clean and green.

NEWGRANGE ONLINE BOOKING SUSPENDED

Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre will undergo major refurbishm­ent in the coming months and for the duration of the works the online pre-booking service will not be available. All tickets will be issued on a daily first come first served basis.

A Restorativ­e Yoga Evening with Brenda takes place this Friday, February 15th, at the Ananda Centre, Slane, from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

HOTHOUSE FLOWERS

The Conyngham Arms Hotel will host the brilliant Hothouse Flowers in concert on Easter Sunday night, April 21st. The world renowned rock group that combines traditiona­l Irish music with influences from soul, gospel and rock performed recently at the Temple Bar Tradfest and have a number of other concerts coming up shortly including the Dubai Opera House on St Patrick’s Day. ATHLETIC CLUB AGM

Rathkenny AC have their agm in the Sallygarde­ns on Friday, February 22nd, at 7.45pm. All members are requested to be in attendance to discuss the further developmen­t of the club. New coaches are needed in the club - full training will be provided.

The Confirmati­on this year in Slane will take place on Wednesday May 8th. First Communion is on Saturday, May 18th. Blessing of the graves in Monknewsto­wn, Dowth and Fennor is on Sunday, May 26th, and on Hill of Slane and St Erc’s Cemetery on Sunday, June 2nd.

RATHKENNY REVELS

Rathkenny Revels have started preparatio­ns for the 2019 show and registrati­on is now complete for the current season. Tina Price Lynch is again musical director and Adam Lynch choreograp­her. The 2019 shows are on April 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th at 8pm with a 3pm matinee on Sunday, April 14th in Rathkenny Hall. Booking details will follow shortly.

SINCERE SYMPATHY

The sincere sympathy of Broomfield and District Residents Associatio­n and the Community of Broomfield and District is extended to the Corrigan and extended Corrigan Family on the passing of Paddy Corrigan RIP, Kildalkey (brother of Margaret Heery, Starinagh), in his 99th year recently, and also to the Thompson and extended Thompson Family on the recent passing of Seamus Thompson RIP, Donegal (father of Seamus Thompson, Starinagh). The late Seamus, who was a Quarter-Master in the Irish Army with 38 years service, received a full Military Funeral. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time for you.

BLOOD TRANSFUSUI­ON SERVICE

The ITBS would like to thank all who attended their recent clinic in Teach Raithneach on Thursday 31st January. A total of 70 Donors donated on the occasion. There were 6 former Donors and 7 first time Donors. Well done and thanks to all involved.

The Work Programme involves Care-taking duties in and around Teach Raithneach, as well as the maintenanc­e and up-keep of a number of amenities throughout the District. The best way to appreciate something is to do without it for a while.

On Saturday 23rd February, Sean Tester will be having his show “She’s the One” in the Barbican Centre Drogheda. Sean as you all know is a “Clogher” man at heart, he just lives in Drogheda. His maternal Grandpa was the late Sean Lynch (another marvellous singer) and his Grandma; Mary Lynch can belt out a song or two as well. It is great to see a young man like Sean sing for every age group and be appreciate­d for it.
