Karina bitterly disappointed with level of beach rubbish

-

WELL done to local couple Karina and Saulius who have taken on the task of cleaning up Baltray beach on a regular basis over the last year.

‘We have recently cleaned the area where Little terns are located. We are very grateful that we can always find empty waste bags and that full bags of collected waste are regularly collected by the Council in that area. What we find very disappointing is that every time after a storm we find huge amounts of various waste – it makes us very upset and disappointed, especially considering how much effort we put into making sure the area looks neat and safe for the community,’ Karina says.

She wants to see a greater awareness of the environment and cleaner areas around schools and the likes of forests.

‘I think it is one of the biggest issues in our local community and we should collectively do something about it, instead of talking and beating around the bush – let‘s make a change for us and our future generations today.’

A recent clean up uncovered a lot of household waste and that is just getting worse.

‘We need to mobilize a group of people with a lot of waste bags and some kind of transport that would arrive to beach to collect full waste bags for recycling. Collecting waste is a physically difficult task – not to mention that we regularly find objects that are too heavy/big to carry them. Therefore, we are in a desperate need of an assistance,’ she states.
