Use your vote for BIDs

- By ALISON COMYN Drogheda is bidding for BIDS

UNLESS you’ve been living under a rock, there can’t be anyone in the greater Drogheda area who isn’t familiar now with the LOVEDROGHEDA Business Improvement District (BID) Proposal 2020 –2025.

With just over a week to go to the submission deadline, the organisers are asking all supporters of the campaign to get out there and sell it to your business neighbours and friends.

“We’ve been knocking on the doors of many Drogheda businesses over the last number of weeks, and it has been great to meet the people that keep the local economy pumping, employing 1,000’s of people locally and providing essential services to our town and country,” says committee chairman Geoff Fitzpatrick:

“The feedback has been very positive and thank you for your support and assistance to date on this. Thank you to all the businesses who, to date, have placed their faith in our proposal and voted YES - we need every YES vote we can get.”

At the September meeting of Drogheda’s councillors - where full support was shown for the inititative - it was agreed that the town needs life injected into it, and that BIDS will pull together the ratepayers and bring Drogheda to a new level.

“Fleadh 2018 and 2019 have demonstrated that when people work together, Drogheda is world class, but we have lots of work to do and our proposal provides us with a structure to get this work done,” adds Geoff.

“BIDS will provide funding for areas outside the remit of Louth County Council, with the potential to use empty/derelict properties for co-working spaces and the Town Centre needs a Manager with passion to look after the issues affecting the town centre.”

He adds that BIDS will enable Drogheda to be re-branded as a vibrant tourist friendly town and will bring investment and much needed regeneration to the town, and will promote and improve the trading environment for the area and make Drogheda a greater place to work, live and socialise.

The closing date is 5pm Thursday 19th September, so let’s give this effort our absolute best shot and a chance to make Drogheda a great place to live, work and play.
