‘Boss Baby’ needs support

SETBACK FOR TOMMY WIT H EPILEPSY TREATMENT BUT HE’S FIGHTING BACK

- By ALISON COMYN

IT’S been a tough month for Drogheda’s Boss Baby Tommy O’Callaghan (right) and his family.

Just over a month ago, his mam Megan found her little boy having a seizure in his cot first thing in the morning, which resulted in him being put into an induced coma in hospital to stop the fit.

The Laurence Park boy (18 months) has a rare condition called 49xxxxy syndrome and travelled to America recently for pioneering treatment, and his parents hope this won’t set him back.

“On August 13th, I found Tommy having a seizure and called an ambulance straight away, but he was in a major seizure for approximately one hour and because of this they had to induce him into a coma as he was fighting to breath,” she explains.

“A team of about 30 doctors never left his side and they finally got him stable and did a CT SCAN of his brain before he was transferred to Intensive Care in Temple St Hospital which he stayed in for 48 hours and then our little fighter woke up.”

Tommy’s neurologist reviewed everything, and he is been treated for epilepsy, and has returned home now and is making a full recovery.

“This has yet been the scariest part of our journey but our little warrior is some fighter and coming back stronger than ever, but to make sure he has the best chance he needs the best therapy possible and unfortunately the HSE will not provide us with , so we would be very grateful of any small donation to help make this happen for Tommy.”

In order to raise funds for his treatment, the family is organising more fundraising events, and desperately needs businesses to sponsor a charity calendar.

“I need at least 45 business to advertise on his calendar for the company to be able to print them free of charge which is amazing as this will bring in €10,000 for Tommy and get us to Italy in April to meet with the American doctors and towards his private therapy which will be in March when he turns two,” explains Megan. “Tommy’s has had a few knockbacks but fighting them like the warrior he is and as we head into the winter months Tommy’s is at high risk of pneumonia and colds.”

The prices range from €90 for a small ad to €650 for the outside cover, and interested local businesses can contact Megan on Megantormey80@gmail.com or contact Choice Media directly on 0402 41390 and just mention Tommy bossbaby.
