ST KEVIN’S ST BRIDE’S 2-6 0-9

IN another epic battle St. Kevins Camogie team secured the double when they saw off St. Brides in the Senior Championship Final in Stabannon. Having already won the league final earlier in the year, St Kevins have now taken their sixth Senior Championship in a row.

On a fine bright afternoon, the curtain was raised by a fantastic U12s final, where St Kevins young guns emerged victorious over their counterparts from Castleblayney in a tight and well fought game.

In a tight first-half a strong crossfield wind made life tough for both sides, but it was St Bride’s who adjourned at the break with their noses in front 0-6 to 1-2..

The second half started much the same as the first with St Brides taking a point but with St Kevins getting a goal from a well struck free, which St. Brides keeper was unfortunate not to stop.

An epic game was unfolding but despite the spirited efforts of both teams the wind, not to mention solid defensive work was creating a challenge for attackers with Cara Mc Keever, Aimee Mc Nally and Rebecca Mooney.

Before presenting the cup to St Kevins, County Board Chairperson Lorraine Young thanked all members of the County Board, club coaches and administrators throughout the county for their efforts over the year.

In her humble acceptance speech, the St Kevins captain Cliodhna Duffy paid tribute not only to her own side for their work and effort over the year but also to the St Brides team for a very well fought game.
