STRAWFEST AT ROCK FARM

Strawfest at Rock Farm, Slane (C15 FNP4), takes place on Sunday, September 22nd from 11am - 5pm. Celebratin­g the end of the harvest with a farm walk, peek at the glamping and strawbale buildings.

There will be a farmers market on the day, and a pop up BBQ and pizza party in the hay barn. There will also be E-bikes, kayaking, organic farm and glamping tours as well as strawbale building tours throughout the day.

SLANE & DISTRICT MENS SHED

Three years of planning and hard graft will come to fruition on Saturday, September 28th when the Slane & District Mens Shed at Slane Industrial Estate will be officially opened by Minister for European Affairs, Helen McEntee, TD at 2pm.

It is designed to provide an outlet for older men who have some time on their hands. It will be open to men from Slane and all of the surroundin­g parishes and is well located, comfortabl­e and well equipped which, it is hoped will support the activities and be of benefit to the local community. Slane and District Mens Shed is open Monday to Friday 10.00 am to 4.00pm.

Everyone is invited to come along and see the place, have a cuppa and a chat. All are welcome at the official opening which is an Open Day for the community.

IBTS THANKS

The Irish Blood Transfusio­n Service (IBTS) would like to thank all 73 donors who attended the recent clinic in Teach Raitneach, Starinagh, Collon. A special thank you to local voluntary organiser Jim Mooney from Slane Red Cross, and to Linda Dillon for their help and support prior to and during the holding of the clinic.

A breakdown of the total figures shows that four former donors and six new donors attended the clinic. It is our wish to continue to service the Slane/ Collon community, and we would urge the people of the district to continue to support this essential service by maintainin­g and increasing the level of support on our next visit.

SLANE ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Slane Active Retirement has resumed after the summer break and meet each Tuesday at 3.10pm. New members, male and female welcome. Further details from Mary at 087 9960874.

HARVEST THANKSGIVI­NG

St Patrick’s Church of Ireland will hold their Harvest Festival on Sunday, September 22nd at 4pm. All are welcome to attend.

FAMILY FUN DAY

The Parents Committee of Stackallen National School have a Family Fun Day this Sunday, September 22nd in Stackallen NS. A Tractor Run starts (11am) and finishes at the school with the Family Fun Day getting underway from 1.30pm.

There will be BBQ, puppet show, trade stalls including cake, bottle and book, face painting, a bumper raffle and a Daddies Soccer Tournament for the John Gillespie Memorial Cup. Further details from the school office 046 9024207.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Slane Cairde will hold their annual Church Gate collection at all Masses this weekend, Sept 21st/22nd.

GOLF CLASSIC

Slane Wanderers Soccer Club have their annual Golf Classic at Bellewstow­n GC on Saturday, October 5th, with tee times 10am - noon. Team of four €120 and includes meal and goody bag. BOYLES GIG

There are a number of top gigs taking pace at the wonderful music venue which is Boyle’s of Slane over the coming weeks. They include Paddy Casey this Thursday, September 19th and tickets at €20 are now on sale. Christy Dignam of Aslan fame, and Joe Jewell play in Boyle’s on Thursday, November 28th in what promises to be another great night.

SLANE YOUTH CAFE

Slane Youth Cafe is back after the summer holidays and meet every Wednesday, 7pm - 8.30pm for first years only, and Friday, 7pm - 8.30pm for second years to 18 year olds. New members are welcome.

With the beginning of autumn comes Tankardsto­wn’s Autumnal Wedding Evening, taking place on Wednesday, October 9th from 6-8pm. Full of inspiratio­n and enchantmen­t, the Orangery will be looking its very best, adorned with autumnal floral displays, candleligh­t and romance.

Savour some bubbly and canapes, whilst absorbing the wonderful ambience of the 18th century manor house in all its glory. PIONEERS CENTENARY

Navan Pioneers are marking their centenary on Saturday, October 19th, with Mass at 6pm in St Mary’s Church celebrated by Bishop Tom Deenihan. It will be followed by a social function in the Newgrange Hotel. Tickets are available through parish PTAA committees.

THE HUB DULEEK

The Hub Adult Training Group, Duleek, part of the Talbot Group, are currently running an ETB course with Ability Film, within our services for our members. This involves our members interviewi­ng members of the public and asking general questions about Duleek.

The informatio­n gathered and some of the interviews will be developed into a short movie about Duleek. Once completed, the finished product could be shown on social media.

We are seeking volunteers who can give us ten minutes on a monday morning between 11.30am to 12.30pm.
