SIMPLY THE BEST.

Lovely piece in The Irish Times last Saturday. The subject in question was Rory Best’s last game in an Irish Jersey in Dublin. The Irish Rugby captain was reminiscing about, laterally, the wonderful times he spent as a player at Lansdowne Rd and formerly as a young boy supporting the Ireland team.

Although, he was driven to question his younger boy motives for taking the journey south on International Match days. Ostensibly, he went to see the oval ball being kicked about, but, secretly, stopping off “in Monasterboice for steak and chips” had it’s advantages also.

Now, me Mammy’s and Anna Marie’s culinary skills are second and third to none (I’ll not be divulging what order), but I have to assume that it’s Donegan’s he was referring to and it was a wonderful compliment from a great man.

FR. PADDY’S OURS.

Great to see the massive crowds at Fr. Paddy Rush’s first offical mass as Parish Priest of Monasterboice in Tenure Church on Sunday last. The refreshments in Tenure’s school afterwards was also a lovely touch.

Paddy would not thank me for eulogising about him but, suffice to say, we are absolutely blessed to get one of the best. Many, many happy years in Monasterboice, Paddy.

SALLY.

Simultaneously, we welcomed one good person to the parish, we lost another. Sally Byrne was a stalwart in the parish, a family person and one of the most engaging women you’d ever meet. She loved her parish, her vintage cars but, mostly, her family. To the latter, my deepest condolences. God’s rest, Sally.

Hearty congratulations goes out to Pauline and Billy Neilon, Harestown, Monasterboice who will be married no less than 50 years on this very Tuesday, Sept 17th. As I write, a lovely day, weather wise, is forecast and the accompanied celebrations are planned to be equally lovely. Well deserved Pauline and Billy and here’s to many happy years ahead from your family and many friends.

A THANK YOU FROM JONNY AND ROSE.

Just a note to say a very big thank you to the 270 plus people who turned out on Sunday the 8th of September for the final Fun Run/Walk in memory of Tiarnan Levins. Over the last 8 years the wider community of Monasterboice, Collon, Ardee and Dunleer, to name but a few, have been both vociferous and adventurous in their support of the event and year on year have contributed so generously. Yeah, not only have they talked the talk, they walked (and ran) the walk.

The main benefactor of the funds over the years has been the local hospice in Ardee, a very worthy cause to those in need in the local area. In particular, we must thank Hunterstown GFC for the use of their facilities on the day and the numerous club representatives who helped us year on year to stage the event.

To Ian Pat Carroll, we have lost count of the number of cups of tea you have made over the years, but thank you. To Dunleer AC and Pat Fitzpatrick for the PA system, again thanks.

Genuinely, we can never thank everyone enough for your continued support over the years but our heartfelt appreciation to ye all.

ROSIE AND JOHNNY

And, from all in Monasterboice, thanks to you both for this fantastic fundraiser, in the name of your fantastic young boy.
