Plan for junction at Constitution Hill before end of year
LOUTH County Council have a plan to address the issues at the junction of Constitution Hill and will implement the changes before the end of the year, it has been revealed.
At the November meeting of Drogheda Municipal District, Councillor Pio Smith asked if there was any update on the plans for the jnction and said a possible two stop system had been mooted previously.
The issue was first raised at the October meeting of Drogheda Municipal District when Councillor James Byrne has called on Louth County Council to give some consideration to changing the right of way, allowing trafffic to continue up Constitution Hill and on to Francis Street and instead moving the stop sign to the Chord Road, which currently has the right of way meaning cars coming up the hill are forced to stop on a steep incline while traffic coming across the Chord Road can continue round corner and on up Francis Street.
Speaking at the October meeting of Drogheda Municipal District, Councillor Byrne said: ‘On such a steep hill it doesn’t make any sense to have to stop there.’
Louth County Council official Darius Messiah said the council now have a design solution for the junction and once this is finalised the plan will be implemented before the end of the year.
The junction at Constitution Hill, Francis Street and the Chord Road has undergone a number of changes over the past decade.
The flow of traffic on Francis Street was reversed two years ago to accommodate the full closure of St Laurences Gate to traffic.
