Delight as East Meath go get more bus shelters

-

A number of new bus shelters are to be installed in East Meath over the coming weeks, it has been revealed.

Meath County Council tendered the contract for the enabling civil engineering works for the shelters and contractor Davis Civil Enginneering were appointed last week.

The areas earmarked for new bus shelters include Inse Bay, Laytown, Race Field, Laytown, Eastham Road ( Village) Bettystown, Eastham Road (The Cloisters), Bettystown and R150 stop ID 111551 at Bettystown.

Work on the new shelters are expected to begin this week.

The contractor’s programme has also been sent to JC Decaux who erect bus shelters on behalf of the NTA so that they can co-ordinate and schedule their works.

JC Decaux have already made applications to the ESB for power to the sites in question.

Davis Civil Engineering will complete accommodation works on site at Laytown and Bettystown, and JC Decaeux will then then install the shelter shortly afterwards.

The news has been welcomed by local councillor Sharon Keogan: ‘ This is great news for our commuters here in Laytown and Bettystown. These new shelters were agreed last year, and it has been very frustrating waiting for the accommodation works to be agreed.I have used every opportunity possible to raise this issue, and highlight the discomfort of commuters and students using the bus service, and I am delighted that our Transportation Team have agreed that the first shelters on the list for the county should be installed in Laytown and Bettystown. This will go some way to improve the lives of our local commuters.’
