Kavanagh pleads for House Draw aid
MEATH County chairman John Kavanagh has appealed to all clubs to get behind the third Royal House Draw in one final push to raise much-needed funds for the redevelopment of Pairc Tailteann into a 22,000-capacity all-seater stadium.
The draw takes place on Saturday December 28th and there is upwards on €125,000 in commission for clubs.
‘The Pairc Tailteann development will benefit everyone, especially our young people,’ Kavanagh said.
‘We have a number of dates - November 23rd, December 15th and 22nd - where we will be selling tickets in Navan Shopping Centre. We need volunteers from clubs to help us out on those dates, people to come in and spend maybe two hours helping to sell tickets.’
Tickets can also be purchased through clubs or online by going to the Meath GAA website.
Meanwhile, this year’s Meath GAA Convention takes place in the Navan O’Mahony’s GAA
Centre on Monday December 16th at 7pm.
While nominations for the various positions have yet to be released, it is understood that there will be contests for a number of posts, including that of chairman.
John Kavanagh (St Ultan’s), who took over as chairman following the recent resignation of Peter O’Halloran, is likely to be opposed for the position by Paddy Kelly (Kiltale) whose five-year stint as Central Council representative comes to an end.
There could also be a number of other candidates for the top position, including O’Halloran, who it is believed has received a nomination.
There could also be contests for secretary and assistant secretary, with former PRO Martin O’Halloran having expressed an interest in running.
There will definitely be a vote to succeed Paddy Kelly as Central Council delegate, with Conor Tormey (Donaghmore/ Ashbourne) and Jason Plunkett (Clonard) the most likely candidates.
