Albion ladies’ Skryne test is passed with flying colours

- SCOREBOARD

THE inaugural UHY Farrelly Dawe White Women’s Winter Tournament in the North East League is at the mid-way point, with three teams in Group A - including Albion Rovers - all tied on six points.

In Group B the other team from the Drogheda area in this league, Slane Wanderers, are in third place with four points following a 1-1 draw at home to Park Celtic Summerhill at the weekend.

Substitute Lorna Finglas scored Slane’s only goal minutes after coming on. She created some space before unleashing a right-footed drive from distance which beat the Summerhill keeper.

The visitors drew level in the second-half when an unfortunate error from Slane keeper Celestine Keveney gifted Park Celtic a leveller.

In Group A, Albion Rovers hit

Skryne Tara for six in their 6-1 win on Friday night.

Originally fixed for Skyrne’s pitch, the game was switched to Albion’s ground because of an unplayable surface at the Meath venue.

Two early goals by Kate Callan set the tone for the hosts, but Skryne did pull one back mid-way through the first half and it remained 2-1 going into the break.

Callan went on to complete her hat-trick early in the second half.

Having lobbed the Skryne goalkeeper in the first period, she repeated the trick to make it 3-1.

Albion’s youth began to tell and they made it 4-1 when Caoimhe Ni headed home a well-hit cross to make it 4-1.

It was very much one-way traffic at this stage and Katie Newman raced onto an incisive through ball and she coolly slotted her shot home to make it 5-1.

Albion’s sixth came courtesy of a Shannon Fay cross cum shot. She raced down the left wing and her delivery looped over the keeper into the far corner of the net.

With both Albion Rovers and Slane Wanderers having three games remaining in the league there is very much everything to play for.
