ALBION ROVERS WHITE 3 DULEEK ARROWS 2

ALBION Rovers White eventually won out against a gallant Duleek Arrows team to win the Drogheda & District Schoolchildren’s League Under-12 Cup Final at DIFE on Friday night last.

The second half of this game was played in perfect clear and cold conditions, in stark contrast to the first half which was played 13 DAYS earlier at a rain-lashed United Park.

Conditions that day were so bad that the match had to be abandoned at half-time because of a waterlogged pitch, with Albion leading 2-0 thanks to goals from captain Matthew McAloon and Luke Marmion.

That half-time scoreline still stood when the teams renewed acquaintances on the all-weather at DIFE, but Albion were pushed all the way this time and Duleek Arrows could consider themselves unlucky after putting up a great fight in what turned out to be an excellent half of football.

Both teams came out suitably refreshed and ready for action, immediately trying to pass the ball around.

Albion spurned a couple of early chances and Duleek struck first to reduce the arrears to a single goal.

Both teams continued to go forward in search of the next goal and it was to be Thomas McGreehan O’Grady who got his head to a bouncing ball to nick it past the advancing keeper to put Albion 3-1 up.

Duleek then struck again with five minutes to go and a nerve-wracking end to the game was endured by all associated with Albion as Duleek piled forward in search of an equaliser. Indeed, they may well have gotten it, only for an outstanding full-length save from Eoghan McKeown.

ALBION WHITE: Senan Kerrigan, Tadgh Boylan, Shane Lambe, Aaron Healy, Liam Magee, Jamie Bradley, Matthew McAloon, Luke Marmion, Sean Cummins, Thomas McGreehan O’Grady, Eoghan McKeown, Leo Nardone, Seamus Smyth, Lucien O’Reilly, Benjamin Mullen.
