St Peter’s on cloud nine after Louth awards night
ST PETER’S have left recent Louth Athletics Annual Awards nights empty-handed, but last Friday they celebrated their most successful year in quite some time.
The club couldn’t possibly have hoped for a better outcome on the night, leaving with five of the individual awards.
Niamh Brady was the deserving recipient of both the Under-15 to Under-17 age group for track & field and for the Under-15 to Under-19 in cross-country.
The club were thrilled at the half-way point of the night to have received even one award, but the club athletes, parents and coaches were in dreamland when four more awards in succession were announced.
Dearbhla Allen was the first of the four to get called out, winning the Under-12 to Under-14 category which was greeted with fantastic applause from all the clubs represented.
This was soon followed with Harry O’Reilly winning the Boys Under-12 to Under-14 - another popular winner. Niamh Brady then completed her double before Cian Gorham finished off what was a glorious night for the small club from Dromiskin by winning the Under-15 to Under-19 category.
Earlier in the night athletes from the club who had received medals at National level got certificates from Athletics Louth in recognition of their achievements. The St Peter’s recipients were Lucy Brennan, Niamh Brady, Cian Gorham, Harry O’Reilly, Judith Bell, Ellie Smyth, Dean Murtagh, Mark Litchfield, Sean Allen, Rory
McLoughlin and Orla McLoughlin.
The long-awaited medals that the Louth Under-11 team won when they finished first in the National B Cross-Country Championships back in February were also presented and both Oisin and Donnacha Reidy from St Peter’s finally got their hands on those well-deserved medals.
This coming weekend sees the first of the National Cross-Country Championship races for 2019 take place.
The Senior Championship race, the main event of the day, will be preceded by the even-age Juvenile programme which will have three St Peter’s athletes compete. All three will move up an age, with Hannah O’Reilly in the Under-12, Dearbhla Allen in the Under-14 and Niamh Brady in the Under-16.
