Aidan King injured but Lannleire still manage a victory

LANNLEIRE improved their prospects of reaching the semifinals of the Junior One F.L. when beating lowly Westerns 1-15 to 1-4 at Dunleer on Sunday. The.host side, 1-7 to 1-3 ahead at the interval, were never really extended and this despite losing the services early on of Aidan King with a leg injury.

Good displays for Dunleer from Sean and Frank Clare, P. J. Callan, John Kennedy, Sean Brennan, ‘Junior’ O’Brien and Richard Callan. Scores: S. Brennan 1-4, R. Callan 0-4, Thomas O’Hare 0-3, P. J. Callan, J. Kennedy, Matty Connolly and A. King 0-1 each.

Hunterstow­n R 1-11 O’Connells 1- 8

Holders, Hunterstow­n Rovers, did themselves a good turn when fending off a strong challenge from O’Connells in a well contested match at Castlebell­ingham. The locals turned over 0-8 to 0-4 ahead. The Callaghan clan shone for the victors in terms of scoring returns. Padraigh had 0-7, his brother Martin 1-3 and Willie Callaghan (no relation) 0-1. For O’Connells: P. Clarke 1-0, Gerry McKeever 0-4, Frank Kelledy 0-3 and Dom Kearney 0-1. Peter Tuite, Tony Prunty, Bernard Culligan and P. Clarke fared well for the O’Connells, while goalkeeper B. Crosby, F. Levins, Dermot and Tom Taaffe, Marrin and P. Callaghan showed up well for Rovers.

Mitchels, despite having Tony Sheridan sidelined in the second half under the personal fouls rule, never looked like losing this match at Ballybaili­e.
