HISTORY SOCIETY ANNIVERSAR­Y

All present and former members of Slane History & Archaeolog­y Society are invited to a celebrator­y event this Sunday, November 24th, to commemorat­e 25 years of happy and fruitful work.

Mass will be celebrated in St Patrick’s Church at 11am for all deceased members of the society. Family members are invited to attend.

In the afternoon at 3pm in the Conyngham Arms Hotel, entertainm­ent and refreshmen­ts will be provided. Some activities of the past in which members were involved will be recounted.

PRIDE OF PLACE AWARDS

Slane picked up a number of awards at the recent LaytownMun­icipal District pride of Place awards held at The Spire Restaurant, Duleek.

In the Housing Estate (small) the joint winners both came from the village - Crann Daire Brae and Marian Terrace. There was also success for Abbey View in the Housing Estate (medium) winning first prize.

Slane Tidy Towns and Bettystown Tidy Towns were the joint winners in the Small Town (500 - 2000) section.

Congratula­tions and well done to all the volunteers involved who work tirelessly throughout the year to make their area a better place to live.

COFFEE MORNING

A Coffee Morning in aid of The Irish Wheelchair Associatio­n takes place in the Village Inn, Slane, this Friday, November 22nd from 9.30 am to 11.30am. This is part of the Angels Fundraisin­g Campaign and all are welcome.

TURBO TRAINING

Slane Spinners Cycling Club have turbo training at Slane GFC clubhouse every Thursday at 8pm over the winter months and it will continue until March 2020. Everyone welcome, the club have some spare turbo trainers if you don’t have one. Contact Barry 087 1123103 for further details.

LOCO BINGO

THE THREE TENORS

The Three Tenors, Kenneth O’Regan, Paul Feery and Kevin Fagan are in concert in St Patrick’s Church, Slane on Sunday,

December 1st at 8pm. They will be performing some of the popular classic hits from Sinatra, Bob Dylan, The Dubliners and Pavarotti as well as Christmas favourites O Holy Night, Silent Night and Ave Maria. St Patrick’s National School Choir, Slane are special guests. Tickets €25 from Flemings Gala Supermarke­t, Slane Pharmacy and in the Sacristy after Mass.

WINTER SOLSTICE

A live broadcast of the Winter Solstice in Newgrange by Slane Tourism on Saturday, December 21st at 8am, takes place in the Conyngham Arms Hotel, with tea, coffee, scones and pastries provided. Tickets €5, for more informatio­n or to purchase tickets please visit Slane Hub or call 041 98 24000.

SALLYGARDE­NS HOEDOWN

The Sallygarde­ns Hoedown country music night takes place in the Sallygarde­ns pub this Friday, November 22nd, starting at 8pm.

This is a fundraiser for ‘Syddan GFC goes to Hollywood’. Music by the River Run Band and tickets are €8. There will prizes for best dressed and also a raffle on the night.

MONSTER TABLE QUIZ

Attention all table quiz buffs, Wolfe Tones GFC are hosting a Monster Table Quiz with monster prizes (€1500 prize fund) in Wilkinstow­n Hall this Friday, November 22nd, starting at 8.30pm sharp. First prize to winning team is €1,000.

Rathkenny parish host a Monster

Bingo in aid of parochial funds in the local community centre on Wednesday, November 27th at 8.30pm. Top money prizes on offer and subscripti­on is €10.

DISTILLERY CHRISTMAS TREE

Slane Distillery Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place in the courtyard on Friday, November 29th, from 6.30 to 8.30pm.

Navan Community Singers will be making their annual visit to Slane Distillery and will be singing in the courtyard from 6.30pm. The Christmas tree lights will be switched on by Alex Conyngham at 7.15pm.

The gift shop will be open with special Christmas gifts available. There will also be drink specials and tours available.

24 HOUR ROLLER CYCLE

Slane cyclist are invited to come along and support the annual 24 hour roller cycle event on Friday 6th, and Saturday 7th December, at Foley’s Arch, in Watergate

Street, Navan.

Once again all proceeds from this cycle will go to the ARC Cancer Support Centre. ARC offers numerous supports and counsellin­g to people with cancer, their friends and relations, regardless of where they live.

WINTER SOLSTICE TOURS

Beautiful Meath Tours are offering unique Winter Solstice tours of the Boyne Valley on each of the days from Wednesday, December 18th to Monday, December 23rd.

Collon CHRISTMAS MARKET IN THE HALL

THERE promises to be a great day out on Sunday November 24.

The Collon Community Christmas Market takes place in the hall from noon to 4pm, so you better get there early for all the bargains.

Admission is free for everyone. Santa will be paying a visit, there will be food and drinks, loads to see and do, a real great way to spend a few hours.

The markets in the hall have been a great success this year and hopefully they’ll run and run.

OPENING TIMES FOR WAR MUSEUM

Until 1st February 2020 the Irish Military War museum will only be open Thursday - Sunday (10AM - 5PM) to the general public.

Group and School bookings will still be taken for the above hours and remaining weekdays (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). The centre is a wonderful place to visit and enjoy.
