Christmas Market brought out the crowds
WHILE a status yellow wind weather warning prevented the West Street part of the project to proceed, the first Drogheda Christmas Festival Market proved a huge success.
Thousands made their way to the Riverfront for three days of fun, food, drink and entertainment.
And after the West Street element had to be cancelled on health and safety grounds, both Scotch Hall and the d Hotel stepped in to provide a home for dozens of traders.
Noel McArdle, who with a hard working committee, spent over a year on the event, said he was ‘devastated’ that the West Street end of the celebration had to be aborted, but the end result was deemed a great success.
The event provided a platform for a number of local musicians to perform, not least the Loving Life choir from northside Drogheda who made their debut in style.
Plans are already being considered for 2020.

Other performers took to the stages, both inside and outside.
Even when the weather closed in on Sunday, Scotch Hall proved a wonderful indoor venue for everyone.
‘ They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and despite having every possible obstacle thrown our way we all worked together to create the best possible event given the circumstances,’ the committee stated.
‘We would like to say a special thanks to Peter Dolan and his team in Scotch Hall Shopping Centre and Rory Mc Nulty of The d hotel who were incredible and did absolutely everything to accommodate the event to ensure it still went ahead
‘ Thanks to Louth County Council, An Garda Síochána, our Sponsors, supporters, the Christmas Festival
Stage team, performers, volunteers, stewards, all the fantastic stallholders and food vendors, anyone that contributed in any way to make the event possible and of course the thousands of people that visited the Riverfront and St Peter’s Church for the Illumination Show on West Street .’
