Way to open for sod to be turned on Alzheimer’s site

-

MAYOR Paul Bell has called on all elected members of Louth County Council to vote in favour of the proposed disposal of land at Greenhills Drogheda at the December meeting of Louth County Council which will finally lead to the turning of the sod on the site for the construction of a facility so badly needed to serve the needs of Alzheimer sufferers and their families in Drogheda and South Louth

“The proposal due for consideration by elected members of Louth County Council will form an agreement on a 99 year lease at a cost to the Alzheimer’s Society of €1,000.00 per annum. But just as important should the proposal be adopted the parties to the agreement have resolved that construction of the facility must commence with two years of the disposal of the 0.0376 hectares of land. This is in my view a most welcome statement of intent and that at last the project will become a reality or the land will revert to the Council, said the Mayor

Due to a mapping omission the site issue was returned to the members of Drogheda Borough Council after being agreed in 2006 and was again unanimously supported by the elected members. It was again raised in 2010/2011 and 2013/2014 when the mayor met the CEO of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland in a determined effort to secure support for the project.

In concluding Mayor Bell acknowledged the sheer determination of the local branch of the Alzheimers Society to get the job done.
