Hannah is making a big difference

-

IT’S great to see local people making an impact in the world and Hannah McCormack is up there with the best.

Hannah is the ‘ Tackle Your Feelings’ campaign manager, a group determined to promote wellbeing in young people.

A former local sporting star, Hannah finished her PhD at the University of Limerick, and took on a new role as Campaign Manager for TYF.

She worked on the workplace wellbeing of Sports Psychologists as part of her college degree and who knows where her career will take her.

Sean Hughes MP and Annagassan

A great piece from 1983 and the story of MP Sean Hughes and his links to mid Louth.

‘Did you know that the mother of one of the successful candidates in the recent Westminster General Election, resides in Annagassan? Mr. Sean Hughes, elected M.P. for the Knowsley South Constituency, a teacher, is one of Mrs. Hughes, Strand Road, Annagassan. Mr. Hughes topped the poll when defeating his nearest opponent - a Conservative - by nearly 12,000 votes. Mrs. Hughes made the trip to England for the election. But as it happened she wasn’t the only close family connections to be present from this side of the water. Also there were Mrs. Imelaa Greaves, Beechwood Drive, Dunleer and Mrs. Rhona Faulkner, Castlebellingham, sisters of the successful Labour man. Their husbands, Harry Greaves and Paddy Faulkner, were able to get time off as well. Sean Hughes takes over the seat occupied for many years by Harold Wilson, now Sir Harold, the one time Prime Minister. We’re indebted to the editor of ‘ Togher Topics’ for the above interesting story.’

And I thought Colm Markey was the only famous politician from the village!
