Secretary condemns leaks to media
IN her report to next Monday night’s Meath Convention, secretary Mairead Delaney hits out at those on management who breach confidentiality by leaking goings-on to the media and outside parties.
The Dunshaughlin club woman also mentions the ‘turbulent times’ off the field when the secretary of the CCC Jimmy Henry and the chairman Peter O’Halloran stepped aside following newspaper revelations. However, she places on record her thanks to both men.
Regarding the leaking of happenings at a management meeting the secretary said: ‘The management meetings of Coiste na Mí are supposed to be confidential. It is obvious,
Central Council delegate, the former secretary and present assistant treasurer Francis Flynn, however, from an article in one of the Sunday newspapers and on social media that confidentiality was breached recently.
‘The media is entitled to comment on matters of public interest, but I was greatly saddened and disappointed that confidential matters and discussions at management were disclosed to outside parties.’
Delaney highlights a mixed year on and off the field, with the Christy Ring Cup success for the hurlers, promotion and qualification for the Super 8s for the senior footballers, a Leinster title win for the junior footballers and victory at Under-16 level in the Gerry Reilly Cup described as ‘wonderful achievements’.
The lady footballers, who reached the All-Ireland Intermediate Final, receive favourable mention, while Duleek-Bellewstown’s Monica McGuirk - who was named on the All-Star team - is congratulated along with Skryne’s Ciara Smyth on winning Leinster Young Player of the Year.
The three Meath players who received an All-Star nomination - Donal Keogan, Bryan Menton and Conor McGill - get a mention, as do hurlers Jack Regan, Sean Geraghty and Keith Keoghan who were named on the Christy Ring Cup 15. David Gough (Slane) is also congratulated on his selection to referee the All-Ireland Football Final.
Regarding the redevelopment of Pairc Tailteann, the secretary said they were awaiting news of their application for the large infrastructure grant which was supposed to be announced in October. She appealed to clubs to get behind the third Royal House draw which takes place on December 28th and points out the benefits for clubs who sell tickets, with generous commission on offer.
The secretary is critical of clubs who do not return trophies on time and said this is unacceptable and has resulted in wrong trophies being presented to clubs the following year.
A number of Gaels who passed away during the year are also remembered, including Fintan Ginnity, Frankie Byrne and Greg Hogge.
