MRS. AILEEN REGAN
Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Aileen Regan who passed away last week.
A lady very much involved in the local area, especially Laytown Bettystown Golf Club, where she was well known, loved and respected.
The funeral Mass took place on Monday last in the Sacred Heart Church Laytown where a huge number of mourners came to pay their respects. Burial took place afterwards in Reilig Mhuire Cemetery. May Aileen Regan rest in peace. work in Greenwich I got my pipe out to have a smoke. One could smoke on the bus in those days. It was just gone five o’clock in the morning and I filled my pipe and noticed that the tobacco was getting low so I went into the newsagents to get a fresh supply.
Shops, especially newsagents were open all hours. The shop was about fifty yards from the bus stop. As I opened the door of the shop there was a massive noise behind me. A lorry had demolished the bus stop.
The lorry driver didn’t stop, either. Luckily, there wasn’t anyone else waiting at the stop. Was I lucky or was I lucky? Definitely.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT.
Now, here’s the perfect antidote to a dark, cold mid December evening. The Parish Pastoral Council of Monasterboice have organised a Fundraising Concert in Tenure’s Church on Sunday next, Dec 15th at 7.30pm and you are ALL invited.
Primarily, the concert is taking place to mark the 125th Anniversary of the Dedication of The Church of the Immaculate Conception and it will be featuring The Drogheda Brass Band, amongst others. Tickets are at a very reasonable €10 per person or €20 per family and all proceeds will be split between SdeVP and the Church repair fund.
You know how the business world has sort of used the hitherto Black Friday thingy as a sort of starting gun for the Christmas shopping. Well, I’ve got a feeling that this concert will have a similar effect on us spiritually, as we head into the real reason for Christmas.
Tickets available from any member of the council, or at the door on the night.

MONASTERBOICE’S TOURISM AND TIDY TOWNS
At the recently held AGM of the above, the committee were delighted to launch its new Logo. A ‘Design A Logo’ competition was ran earlier this year between both Harestown and Tenure schools and the winning design was created by Sean Murphy from Glenwood Abbey, Tenure.
A call was put out this time last year for people to Sponsor a Tree. This was a very successful project and as a result there were 100 trees planted at Killineer and Priestown. It is hoped to plant lots more trees in the coming year and the committee is again looking for Sponsors. Locations for planting include Ferney Park, Killineer and Priestown pollinator parks and an orchard of fruit trees in an area behind the Northbound bus stop opposite the Monasterboice Inn. Your tree can include a personalized place name made by the very talented volunteer Kathleen Smyth.
A great alternative Christmas present perhaps or indeed ‘In Memory’ of a loved one. Tree sponsorship is €50. You can contact us on 0830562641 or email monasterboicetourism@gmail. com.
There are two vacant CE positions for the Group under the Dunleer Community Employment Company. Duties include DIY, mowing, strimming, painting, litter control, planting etc. Please contact Dunleer CE on 0416851515 or dunleerce@eircom. net for further information.

BLOOD DONORS WANTED NOW TO SAVE LIVES
One in four people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives.
Every day, patients in hospitals throughout Ireland require blood transfusions. Sometimes it may be for a routine surgical procedure such as a hip operation. Other times it may be for someone recovering from a road traffic accident, major surgery such as a heart bypass or perhaps a transfusion is needed to enable a patient to tolerate the effects of cancer treatment.
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) provides the blood and blood products needed in hospitals to help these patients. Every week 3,000 donations are needed in Ireland. A coronary artery bypass may use between 1 and 5 units of blood. A car victim may require up to 30 units of blood, a bleeding ulcer could require anything between 3 and 30 units of blood.
An average adult has between 10 and 12 pints of blood. A blood donation is just 470mls – less than one pint. A total of 2,403 units were required in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda during 2018.
If you’d like to help, there is an opportunity to give blood at the IBTS mobile clinic in Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer this Thursday, 12th December, 5pm to 8:30pm. Please Note Day & Clinic Opening Times. For further details, please contact our lo-call Donor Information Line 1850 – 73 11 37 or Finbar Gethins, Area Manager at our Ardee Regional Office, 041 – 685 9994 or www.giveblood.ie
