Mrs Taylor of 33 George’s Street

-

THE death last week, of Mrs. Ellen Taylor, 33 George’s Street, who was killed in a motoring, accident near Swords, aroused deep and widespread regret and never was that expression more applicable, for the deceased lady had friends all over Ireland — and, indeed, in other countries-who were shocked and grieved to learn of her lamented demise.

Mrs. Taylor was a boarding house keeper, but it was a guesthouse with a difference -- a real home from home—where her innate kindness and courtesy gave a new significance to the term landlady.

Widowed early in her married life, she had no children, but she gave to her “boys”—her term for those who had the good fortune to become her boarders —all the loving affection which a mother gives to her family.

She was always at their beck and call and went to endless trouble to see that they were comfortable and well cared for; When any of her “boys” got married there was always a handsome wedding gift for them, and the christenings, too, were remembered. So, too, were the birthdays of her younger boarders, and it gave her the greatest of pleasure to bake and ice a cake for these occasions. When, in the course of their employment they had to leave town—and nobody ever left Mrs. Taylor’s home for any other reason—she would write to them, and at Christmas there would always be a card from “Mrs. T.”

When any of her “boys” became ill, they were fussed over and meals brought to their bedrooms cheerfully and willingly. There was never a cross word or complaint from this wonderful Christian lady who dedicated her life to the happiness of others and to doing* good- at every opportunity.

Cheerful, kindly and considerate, she was, during her years In Drogheda, a mother to the scores of young men who found a home and happiness at 33 George’s Street.

The town, indeed, is a poorer place by her passing.
