-

LOCAL TD Fergus O’Dowd has welcomed news from his colleague Minister Michael Ring that he has signed off on €138,000 in LEADER funding to assist the local Red Door Project in refurbishing their premises on the Dublin Road.

I would like to send my best wishes to Louise, Joanne and all of the team and service users on the good news,” said Deputy O’Dowd.

“I have worked closely with the Red door over a number of years now and I cannot think of a more deserving organisation to receive this financial boost.”

The Red Door Project was founded in 2009 to meet the needs of a community that was struggling to cope with the burden of addiction in Drogheda and its hinterland. As client numbers grew, they moved their service to the former

Convent of Mercy School on the Dublin Road in Drogheda in 2015. This expansion of space has allowed them to grow and expand their services.

“This refurbishment will bring about great change in the former Convent of Mercy premises. The staff and service users deserve a more modern, practical and efficient premises to work and receive much needed treatment,” he added.

“The overall project includes the provision of a gym area, music and therapy rooms.”

The refurbishment of the premises will begin by retrofitting the building with improved heating systems. The windows will be replaced with double glazing. Toilet facilities will be upgraded. The roof and external walls will be fitted with insulation. Finally, the promoter will install a new canteen and kitchen area.
