Ardee tenor James joins Tara and the ladies!
BLESSED amongst local female talent is Ardee tenor James McCreanor, who will appear with sopranos Amie Dyer and Hannah O’Brien at the vocal masterclass of international mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught.
James is a former boy soprano, who has studied under Geraldine McGee, who has dedicated her life to music and the encouragement of young singers.
“I have to thank Geraldine for where I am today,” says James (29). “She heard me singing when I was just a boy, and she was also the one who recommended me to Ronny (Dr Veronica Dunne), who I still study with at the Royal Academy.
James says it is thanks to her and her renowned skill as a vocal teacher that his voice has grown and improved.
“Even though I have had international masterclasses before – it was because of studying with Ronnie that I have one in Milan under my belt – it is really good to hear different techniques,” he adds.
“Tara takes pride of place in this country, so to attend this masterclass is like being taught by the best, with the best!”
James appeared last week in an opera performance in Dublin with his fellow co-stars Amie and Hannah, and says they all look up to Tara.
“She is such a role model for us, and it is great that she hasn’t forgotten her roots and is still so down to earth,” he adds.
“I am a little nervous but I actually hope she gives out to me and makes me work hard, as we can all think there isn’t something new to learn at time.”
These masterclasses are a unique opportunity for members of the public, who have a passion for opera or singing, to see behind the scenes of international level talent.
