BREXIT MEETING IN ARDEE

The implications of Brexit may have far-reaching effects on Irish business. Louth County Council and the Local Enterprise Office are working hard to prepare SMEs for the return of customs controls.

Business owners and managers are invited to a free “Preparing Your Business For Customs” workshop in Dundalk (24th Jan) and Ardee (12th Feb).

Head of Enterprise in Louth Thomas McEvoy explains “Brexit is now fast approaching. Lots of small business owners have not yet grasped the impact that customs will have on getting goods in and out of Ireland. And unfortunately, many of will only discover it when it is too late.”

He continues, “These workshops are free to attend and really, really practical. They are aimed at small business owners who will have to manage these things themselves and want to minimise disruption to supply chains. The workshop will help ensure that SMEs in Louth are working to best practice.”

At the end of the workshop, business owners will understand the potential impacts and the formalities and procedures to be adopted when trading with a third country. The workshop will highlight the Customs facilities available to importers and exporters, opportunities to minimise import duty payments and ensure compliance with customs procedures.

Thomas concluded “This is a really valuable learning opportunity for SMEs. Places are free but pre-booking is essential. Book your place on www.localenterprise.ie/Louth”

The Ardee meeting is on February 12 from 9.30am to 4pm in the Ardee Business Park.

FROM THE FILES

December 1962 - Mr. James Dawe, Arus Mhuire, Nashville Park, Howth, who died recently, was a native of Ardee, and had, until his retirement a few years ago, been proprietor of two thriving grocery and newsagent shops at Phibsboro’ and Nephin Road, Cabra, Dublin. In his early youth he worked for many years in Messrs. McQuillans of Drogheda, and married a Drogheda lady , the late Josephine (Daisy) Murphy of John Street. A lifelong follower of the G.A.A. code, he was a staunch supporter of the Louth team and seldom missed an inter-county match in which they figured.

He is survived by his son. Mr. Thomas Dawe; three daughters, the Misses Enda and Vera Dawe, Dublin, and Mrs. Olive

Flynn, Howth, by a sister, Miss K. Dawe, Cabra, by a son-in-law, Mr. Flyr.n and daughter-in-law, Mrs. T. Dawe, to all of whom sympathy is extended.
