IN MEMORY

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Miss Ann Crilly, the widely renowned Music Teacher of Crilly School of Music, Fair Street Drogheda, who recently passed away. Many parents and children from across the parish of Stamullen would have attended the fair Street venue over many years; the familiar red door entrance to the quaint little house where Miss Crilly had taught. Following funeral Mass in St. Peter`s Church West Street Drogheda, Miss Crilly was laid to rest in St. Peter`s Cemetery Drogheda on January 11th last.

KNOW YOUR PARISH

The following article/notice appeared in the pages of the Saunders Newsletter newspaper July 26th 1781. `A Caution. Whereas I’m credibly informed, that Phelix Connor, late a Footman in my Service, produces or gives out, that he has a very good character or Discharge under my Hand and Seal. I do hereby inform any person to whom he may present said Discharge, that if there be anything inferred in it, in favour of his character, further than that he was sober, it is an absolute forgery and contrary to what he deserves. I therefore recommend to any person who intends to hire him, to apply to me for his real character before they engage him. July 1781, Lord Gormanston`. The above-mentioned, Lord Gormanston, was the 13th Viscount Gormanston, Edward Anthony Preston. He passed away some five-years later in 1786 and was buried in the family burial vault in St. Christopher`s in Stamullen village. There is a small headstone, set within the grounds of Gormanston Castle, commemorating the death of this particular Viscount`s dog. The inscription reads, ` In Memory of our faithful dog Tiger 1782`.
