Young Boyne athletes savour the sweet taste of victory at indoor competitio­ns

ADAM Byrne, Leyton Byrne and Oliver Carolan enjoyed the sweet taste of victory for Boyne at the recent indoor competitio­n hosted by Cushinstow­n AC.

With the cross-country season almost at an end, training for the upcoming indoor campaign is well and truly under way and this ever-popular annual competitio­n was the perfect opportunit­y to gain some competitiv­e action against athletes from a large number of other clubs.

Some of Boyne AC’s newer members were appearing in competitio­n for the first time and all produced very impressive results.

In the girls events, Ava Hand finished a fine third in the U-9 60m, while Caoimhe Martin took fourth place in the U-13 shot put, competing out of age.

There were great runs and jumps too from Sarah Ann Walsh, Ruby Cooper, Sadhbh O’Donoghue,

Robyn Reilly, Isabelle Winters, Dara Winters and Bonnie Hegarty.

For the boys, Adam Byrne ran a great race to finish first in the U-16 60m, while Harry Devitt continues to impress as he finished second in the U-13 60m.

A regular to the podium, Leyton Byrne finished second in the U-9 60m and also won the long jump in that age group.

Callum Byrne took silver in the

U-12 60m and clubmate Oliver Carolan threw a new PB of 11.25m to take first in the U-13 shot put and also came second in the long jump.

Also in action and competing strongly for Boyne AC were Cillian Everitt, Ruadhan Fangerau, Jack Devitt, Louis Devitt, Cormac Reynolds and Thomas Collins and the future looks bright for these talented young athletes as they head into an exciting year.
