Donegal keeper Cormac Hanlon did come to the rescue in the final seconds of the half, with a rasping free kick from Ultan McLaughlin turned around the post.
Drogheda coach Mark Costigan and his team had a good chat with the side at the break and they went on to dominate the second period, but they didn’t enjoy the luck needed to get back on level terms.
Osho was a whisker away from scoring early in the half, before the impressive Tadgh Dunne finally found the net.
Playing excellent football into the wind, Drogheda continued to dominate, but that all-important equaliser just wouldn’t come. Their best chance fell to Sean O’Halloran on 30 minutes, with Donegal’s reserve keeper touching the ball over the bar to keep the ball out.
