U-19 title at stake as Ardee take on Glenmuir

-

ARDEE Celtic play fellow contenders Glenmuir on Saturday with the Dundalk Under-19 League title as their prize if they win.

Currently, St Dominic’s head the table with 15 points with their full programme of seven games completed, while Ardee - with that one game left - are a point adrift.

However, Glenmuir - who lag behind in matches played, with only three completed by the weekend - have a crucial encounter with Rock Celtic due to be played this Tuesday. If they are victorious in that they could creep up on the rails and land the title by winning or drawing with Ardee.

Saturday’s game has a 2pm kick-off and will be played in either Glenmuir Park or Muirhevnamor.

Full points from their scheduled two games this week would bring Glenmuir to 12 points, the same total as Rock who would have completed their programme.

Even a win and a draw would leave Glenmuir with the opportunity to still take the title, with six points from their last two games hoisting them to the summit, one point ahead of current leaders St Dominic’s.

So it is a very crucial week in the league, with the draw also to be made this Wednesday for the first round of the challenge cup which will take place in Glenmuir Park. Ties will be played on the week ending Sunday February 23rd.

A backlog of fixtures will also be sorted out which will determine who will contest the bottom-four competition.

St Dominic’s took over the leadership of the table by virtue of a victory on Saturday in a high-scoring tussle with Bellurgan United that produced nine goals.

Fintan Brady bagged four for the winners, with brother Brian and Aaron Crawford notching one apiece, while Sean Dawe, Luke Higgins and Ian Arnold netted for Bellurgan,

In a mid-week refixture, Quay Celtic got the better of Termonfeckin on a 3-1 scoreline, with Izzac Bona on target for the losers and Quay’s goals coming from Taylor Murphy, Michael Begley and Dillon Cahill.
